On December 3-10, 2021, one of the most important events in the field of innovation development in the cities of Ukraine took place - the urban hackathon SYNCHRO SPACE. The event was supported by the Innovation Development Laboratory of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine and FIABCI Ukraine.

Biomimicry is primarily about the relationship between humans and nature, where nature is a source of inspiration for human technology and a model for solving complex problems. Nature-centeredness is becoming a new trend, and investors are increasingly interested in innovative solutions inspired by natural processes.

On July 20, the Parkovy Exhibition and Convention Center hosted a presentation of the program "Hackathon of Coal Mining Cities. GET NEW IDEAS!"

On June 1, 2021, three winners of the National Competition for Innovative Solutions to the Logic of Biomimicry, organized by the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine and the Institute of Biomimicry (USA), were announced. The theme of the competition was waste management - one of the components of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Biomimicry Project is a very important and timely UNDP initiative that included an online training course, competitions and incubation. During June, SYNCHRO SPACE helped the winning teams prepare projects for presentation at the next, international stage of the competition.

On August 14-21, 2020, one of the most important events in the field of innovation development in Ukrainian cities took place - the IV urban hackathon SYNCHRO SPACE. The event was supported by the Accelerator Lab of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ukraine, and FIABCI Ukraine.

Oksana Udovyk held a webinar for the participants of the urban hackathon and the audience of SYNCHRO SPACE, where she shared examples of implementing nature-based solutions in Ukraine and around the world.

Experts from Ukraine and the Netherlands revealed the main challenges, important areas and tasks for cities. Startups from both countries presented their solutions in these areas.

One of the main goals of the cooperation is to plan projects that use nature-based solutions and the principles of biomimicry (imitation of models, systems, and elements of nature) and implement these initiatives in municipalities to accelerate urban development.

Two years ago were presented the results of the first urban hackathon Synchro Space, that marked the beginning of the path to innovative urban development in Ukraine.

On May 15, as part of the program for introducing innovations in cities and preparing for the IV urban hackathon SYNCHRO SPACE, a discussion panel "The Future of Cities: Development Scenarios in Times of Crisis" was held with the participation of prominent innovators.
